promoting and increasing access to nature activities. The facility is
located in a forest in Komoro City in Japan's mountainous Nagano
Prefecture. Their treehouse is collective housing for many birds and one
person. On one side, the treehouse has entrances to 78 nest spaces for
birds. The other side has an entrance for one person, who can look into
the birds' nests from inside the treehouse. Nendo’s work is characterized by a playfulness and an apparent formal simplicity, which
is actually deceptive because the products are usually born byan extremely
complex process. The simplicity of Nendo's work recalls the ancient Japanese tradition whose roots date back to 1400s and had an important influence on the development of the Western Modernism (as stated by the famous postcard Le Corbusier sent to Walter Gropius in 1954 saying "All what we have been fighting for has its parallel in old Japanese culture"). To a foreign eye, the lightness and simplicity of Nendo’s work evokes
the minimalist tradition of Japanese design, which dates to the late
1400s and was a defining influence on Western Modernism. But those
qualities are softened by its childlike humor, which seems closer in
spirit to Japanese popular culture than to the rationalism of modernist
grandees, like the late Sori Yanagi and Naoto Fukasawa.“My designs are very simple and very minimal, but I don’t want them to
be too cold,” Mr. Sato explained. “I like them to have a friendliness
and playfulness, and a sense of humor. And my starting point is always
the story behind the object.”

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">Lo studio Numen / For Use ha creato una scultura organica per celebrare i dieci anni di Z33. L'installazione Tape Z33
Croatian-Austrian design collective Numen / For Use have created a new iteration of their Tape installation at the Z33 House for Contemporary Art in Hasselt, Belgium, on the occasion of the institution's tenth anniversary. Continuing on the series that first originated at the Vienna Design Week
in 2009, the collective has created a sculptural structure suspended
between the trees, built entirely with transparent tape. The structure
can be entered and experienced by visitors, and evokes the idea of a
large-scale spiderweb.
"The idea for the installation originates in a set design concept for a
dance performance in which the form evolves from the movement of the
dancers between the pillars," states the Numen / For Use. "The dancers
are stretching the tape while they move, so the resulting shape is a
(tape) recording of the choreography." The structure's final for, was
"found", according to the collective, through the act of wrapping in a
chaotic, unplanned way, transforming a two-dimensional material into a
three-dimensional shape. "The installation was envisaged as a site
specific, parasitical structure invading an arbitrary location," Numen /
For Use remark. "The straight lines of main trajectories are stretched
across a given area and these tendons are then wrapped diagonally with
layers of elastic tape, giving shape to a complex organic form through a
process similar to the emergence of such structures in nature."

The Wildcat Fellowship Program began in 2008 with a summer-long

«Intervista a Giuseppe Castelli». New", Courier, monospace;">Reverse graffiti<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">, also known as <span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">clean tagging<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">, <span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">dust tagging<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">, <span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">grime writing<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">, <span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">green graffiti<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> or <span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">clean advertising<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">,<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> is a method of creating temporary or semi permanent images on walls or other surfaces by removing dirt from a surface. It is often done by removing dirt/dust with the fingertip(s) from windows or other dirty surfaces, such as writing 'wash me' on a dirty vehicle. Others, such as artist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moose_%28graffiti_artist%29" style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;" title="Moose (graffiti artist)">Moose<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">, use a cloth or a high power washer to remove dirt on a larger scale. The first large scale reverse graffiti art piece was made by Alexandre Orion in 2006, the intervention Ossario with over 1000 foot is washed by the municipality of São Paulo in the end of the video. Street artists such as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksy" style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;" title="Banksy">Banksy<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandre_Orion" style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;" title="Alexandre Orion">Alexandre Orion<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> have made works with reverse graffiti as well. As with traditional graffiti, nowadays the technique is also explored commercially as an original way of out-of-home advertising to reach consumers in an unconventional new way. The pilot campaign for Telfort was highly successful and made it to several blogs and advertising magazines.<span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Since then, large companies as Microsoft, the BBC and Smirnoff have advertised their products in this way. <span style="color: #999999; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">In this context, marketers call it, "clean advertising" or "clean graffiti". This form of advertising has been adopted by local authorities in the past to deliver public service messages. Whether it be home watch, litter prevention or a drink safe campaign around the town. The method can help promote local events, special offers, retail promotions or even just to increase an organisation's market presence. Because reverse graffiti is temporary, biodegradable, and no hard materials such as ink, paper, or chemicals are used in its production and it does not use electricity to back or front light, reverse graffiti is considered an environmentally friendly way of advertising.

an organic structure/space/creature realized on the dunes of the
Wenduine coastline, Belgium. The 45 meters long and 10 m wide and high
installation moves freely in-between architecture and environmental art
and is constructed entirely out of willow following the local knowledge
of working with sand and willow. Casagrande worked hard with his team of
young architects and local experts for 4 weeks in order to create
something that he describes as 「weak architecture」 – a human made
structure that wishes to become part of nature through flexibility and
organic presence. The visitors are describing the Sandworm as a
willow cathedral finely tuned to celebrate the site specific conditions
of the Wenduine tidal beaches. The space is used for picnics, relaxation
and post industrial meditation. “Inside the sandworm you are greeted by a natural spectacle of light and
shadow. I was amazed. How you can create such beauty with such simple
natural materials. The artist believes that architectural control goes
against nature and thus also against architecture. The built human
environment is a mediator between human nature and nature itself. To be
part of this, man must be weak. To the Finnish artist Marco Casagrande
designing is not sufficient. Design should not replace reality. The
building must grow out of the location, it must react to its
environment, it must be a reflection of life and also be itself, as
every other living being.” Commission by Beaufort04 the fourth edition of the Triennial of Contemporary Art by the Sea in 2012.

ProOax organization that he leads. Some of its objectives are to create a

representatives of the rich Oaxacan biodiversity, duly identified and

appreciation and relaxation. In order to demonstrate the relationship
between the
vegetation and the traditions of Oaxaca, the garden only brings together

petitioned then-President Carlos Salinas for the ouster of the military.
After further pressure from Mr. Toledo’s newly formed organization,
Pro-Oax, dedicated to the conservation of Oaxaca’s heritage, two
projects for the site – a five-star hotel and a parking lot – were later
abandoned. The army left behind heaps of concrete, rubble, shooting
targets and rusty equipment on the 2.3 hectares (slightly less than 6
acres) of land. But Mr. Avila, determined to see his project succeed,
was ready and the landscaping work finally began in 1997. Today, behind
the imposing walls surrounding what used to be

of plants. Mr. Avila’s next goal is to gather 700 more, to encompass

In response to the 'Garden of Colours' theme, she designed a square garden inspired by an M. C. Escher’s drawing Sky and Water forms the base for the layout of the planting plan composed of 12 pairs of plants where each white plant has a black ‘cousin’. Instead of a colourful garden, Vogel proposed a 'colourless' version: one side is planted with white, the other with black flowering plants which are to all intents and purposes 'twins', except for their colour. The two colours merge in the middle of the garden. The perimeter gravel path is part of the pattern, with black gravel on one side and white on the other. As more people visit the garden, they will unwittingly help to mix the gravel, too. In collaboration with Katarina Brandt.

Vogel won a competition held in the context of the 2008 edition of Lausanne-Jardins with a design for a temporary garden on the forecourt of one of the city's many châteaux, which is normally used as a car park. Vogel based her design on medieval ornaments inside the château that she abstracted into a 'contemporary container pattern', which will be planted with geraniums (a popular balcony plant in Switzerland). The containers, which are easy to assemble thanks to the folding system Vogel developed, decorated the forecourt for the duration of the Lausanne-Jardins event (20 June–21 October 2009). Through this installation the square regained its public function for the duration of the urban garden festival Lausanne Jardins.

font-family: courier new;">/ Anouk Vogel was born in 1977 in Geneva, Switzerland, and before fetching up in the Netherlands she lived in the US, Germany and England. It is this experience that has broadened her gaze, and because she doesn't hail from just one culture she is often able to trust her first impressions of a place, perhaps more so than local designers. The jury that chose her design for a temporary garden, A Chaque Château son Jardin, as the winner, was convinced that she was a 'local', so sure-footed was her response to the brief. So far, she has realized projects in the Netherlands, Lithuania, Switzerland, Spain and France. There is no particular focus; Vogel's interest in design and art, as well as in natural processes and biology, are expressed in different ways in all her commissions. She recently designed two gardens: the Lace Garden and the Garden of Escher. The latter, a temporary garden, was based on a typical M.C. Escher pattern. In Vogel's garden, as in the graphic artist's fine lithographs and woodcuts, there is a mirroring effect and black and white flowering plants meet and switch places in a tautly symmetrical geometric pattern. Her fascination with biology and nature come to the fore in projects like the Bat House and the Ornithologist's House. The first was a competition entry designed with Johan Selbing for a visitors' centre and bat house for the London Wetland Centre. Vogel and Selbing proposed a dome-like volume consisting of three shells simulating different roosting conditions: a cave, an attic and a wall cavity. The ornithologist's house is home to birds as well as to bird-lovers. The building, an abstracted hollow tree trunk, is both dwelling and bird watching hide. With luck, the building will be realized in a clearing in a wood in Almere in the Netherlands. All these projects, big and small, are characterized by a personalized approach and are consequently distinctive. Vogel insists this has nothing to do with size. Because she accepts commissions that do not tie her to a particular design strategy (she is neither a furniture maker nor an interior architect, neither biologist nor gardener) she is able to approach each project on its own merits and to choose the most fruitful collaboration. In the end all Anouk Vogel's projects turn out to be 'gems'.

Link
Giardini Ribellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843703881839292329noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680210024994812433.post-10985140761883731692012-04-02T14:15:00.004+02:002012-05-17T11:38:32.660+02:00Paesaggi pop-up / Pop-up landscapes
In the book appears a vacant lot from different perspectives, a place at the outskirt of society that is often visited by skateboard riders or people from the margins. In small fascinating miniature landscapes, we can study an environment where people spend time on their own terms or enter a free zone in an otherwise all too transparent and structured urban environment. It is a drastic and fascinating meeting that occurs between the pop-up book’s innocent children’s book character, and the rugged environment’s connotations of youthful search for new and exciting context, as well as crime and drugs. Andreas Johansson has long worked with collages where he cuts apart photographs and then builds up new environments, reminiscent of places we all recognize. As a young skateboard riders in Vaxjo, he was drawn to industrial and desolated places, which in his imagination could just as well have been an abandoned legendary skateboarding arena in the Arizona desert. That feeling of escape and daydreaming are captured in his collages. The artist portrays places, with a careful and skillful craftsmanship, that could be found just as much on the North American continent, as in a small Swedish town. As the poetic title indicates, it is about exploring the surroundings from a more general position that symbolically points towards the sun. There is a particular sharpness in the images that highlights every detail, even if the source of the light remains unclear, and never identified.
Giardini Ribellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843703881839292329noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680210024994812433.post-6676447744071759982012-03-16T09:19:00.002+01:002012-05-17T11:40:07.616+02:00Paeaggi d'arte / Landscapes of Art
The building, which dates to 1904, was not a large-scale construction. Today it has an 800 m2 building surrounded by property measuring 1200 m2. Diego and Frida filled it with color, folk art, and pre-Hispanic pieces to show their admiration for the peoples and cultures of Mexico. The construction underwent two major modifications. When Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky lived with Diego and Frida in 1937, the property today occupied by the garden was purchased. In 1946 Diego Rivera asked Juan O’Gorman to build Frida’s studio. Following Diego’s wishes, the Casa Azul was turned into a museum in 1958, four years after Frida Kahlo died. The house in Coyoacán speaks of the daily life of Frida and Diego. The kitchen and dining room show signs of the pleasure they took in entertaining the luminaries who visited them. The Casa Azul also reflects the couple’s love for folk art, such as the papier-mâché judas figures by Carmen Caballero and the sculptures by Mardonio Magaña. The ex-voto collection on the stairway is one of the most important in the country. Both painters also collected pieces of pre-Hispanic art. Many of these pieces decorate the interior and gardens, where Diego had a pyramid built to put his favorite pieces.
This avant-garde happening is a high point in London’s calendar. The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2011 is designed by world-renowned Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. This year’s Pavilion is the 11th commission in the Gallery’s annual series, the world’s first and most ambitious architectural programme of its kind. It is the architect’s first completed building in the UK and includes a specially created garden by the influential Dutch designer Piet Oudolf. At the heart of Peter Zumthor’s Pavilion is a garden that the architect hopes will inspire visitors to become observers. Zumthor says his design ‘aims to help its audience take the time to relax, to observe and then, perhaps, start to talk again – maybe not.’ The design emphasises the role the senses and emotions play in our experience of architecture. With a refined selection of materials Zumthor creates contemplative spaces that evoke the spiritual dimension of our physical environment. As always, Zumthor’s aesthetic goal is to customise the building precisely to its purpose as a physical body and an object of emotional experience. Zumthor has stated that ‘the concept for this year’s Pavilion is the hortus conclusus, a contemplative room, a garden within a garden. The building acts as a stage, a backdrop for the interior garden of flowers and light. Through blackness and shadow one enters the building from the lawn and begins the transition into the central garden, a place abstracted from the world of noise and traffic and the smells of London – an interior space within which to sit, to walk, to observe the flowers. This experience will be intense and memorable, as will the materials themselves – full of memory and time.’ Atmosphere is important to Zumthor, and his architecture seeks to engage the senses. But in this deceptively simple building he has stripped away all distracting details. The only colour is a vivid blue bench around four sides. All eyes will be on the plants – and the process of contemplation can begin. “Zumthor envisaged a very open, sunny garden in what is a very enclosed, sheltered space,” says Oudolf. “I had to explain to him that I would make the planting better suited to the north face of a building, or a woodland edge.”

Not too much, just a little punctuation gets attention.” Grasses such as Molinia 'Transparent’, keep the overall effect soft and hazy, conducive to the state of elevated daydreaming. “I want visitors to see that architecture is simple and planting is complex. When one of the necklaces cannot be worn anymore, or when the owner feels the need to part with it, it can be placed on a nice spot in a natural environment. Here it will dissolve. Later, wild flowers will grow on that spot. I fiori sono minuscoli, color giallo verdastro, riuniti in pannocchie o in dense spighe erette, simili a spazzole; i fiori basali sono normalmente femminili, quelli superiori maschili, quelli nel mezzo a volte bisessuali / Gunnera manicata, or giant rhubarb, a native of Brazil, is an ornamental plant of the Gunneraceae family. The underside of the leaf and the whole stalk have spikes on them. The leaves of Gunnera grow to an impressive size. Leaves with diameters well in excess of four feet are commonplace, with a spread of 10 feet by 10 feet on a mature plant.
