Fuorisalone 2011/ Jellyfish Farm/Milan Design Week 2011

L’acqua all’interno della vasca è salata. La cassetta porta la dicitura impressa: “ 5.5 billion of people will face water shortage by 2025. Unequal distribution of water will lead to conflict. 98% of the world’s water resources is in the oceans / It's back agin this year the Milan Green Festival that will take place during The Milan Design Week (12th-17th April 2011). Among the events, have a look to the "Jellyfish Farm": an installation created by Studiomobile for Appartamento Lago, the well-known furniture company. The installation-prototype "Jellyfish Farm" uses the process of desalination of sea water for the cultivation of floating vegetable gardens. The goal is to bring attention to the theme of water as an element of importance inthe increasingly important globalpolitical and social dynamics. The water inside the tank is saltwater. Two floating islands in the shape of jellyfishand built with recycled materials, home to two hydroponic gardens. The tentacles, natural cotton fiber, leading to capillary water inside the dome. Once the mass of wet cotton inside the dome of plexiglass, the heat from lamps, the water evaporates. Thevapor condenses upon contact with the surface of Plexiglas. The water produced feeds the floating vegetable gardens. The installation isproposed as a kind of neo-nature, where objects from the daily recycling become a living independently. At the base of natural iron table is a small wooden box containing the salt with which people are invited to further salt water. The box bearsthe engraved words: 5.5 billion of people will face water shortage by 2025. Unequal distribution of water will lead to conflict. 98% of the world’s water resources is in the oceans
