Il 2 giugno 2010 sono state riaperte al pubblico le quattro serre all'interno del Jardin des Plantes di Parigi. LAN, lo studio incaricato del progetto, ha creato un itinerario che sottolinea la distinzione tra "museo" e "serra". Infatti, il tour si snoda da una serra alla successiva attraverso una serie di percorsi che permettono al visitatore di vedere le piante da vicino, di immergersi tra di esse."I principi guida del progetto sono quelli di eliminare i limiti delle strutture classiche delle serre, al fine di fondere colore, forma e materia, per creare percorsi perfettamente integrati nel loro ambiente; inoltre, il percorso aiuta a mettere in evidenza la maestosità degli alberi, rispettando la luce naturale dell'ambiente. E' quindi l'eccezionale rigoglio della vegetazione ad avere la precedenza, non l'architettura. Lo stesso trattamento dei percorsi diventa motivo di riflessione sulle caratteristiche di ciascuna serra: il calcestruzzo dei percorsi viene declinato in quattro modi diversi: nella serra delle foreste tropicali, i pezzi in calcestruzzo, colorati durante la miscelazione,sono disposti a formare strisce di diverse lunghezze alternate al terreno nudo, con l'effetto di "sfocare" o "sfilacciare" i bordi del percorso, soprattutto perchè con il tempo, le piante e i fiori saranno in grado di infiltrarsi nel percorso stesso e la sua superficie acquisterà una patina particolare. Nella serra della piante desertiche, il calcestruzzo è di colore chiaro e aiuta ad accentuare l'atmosfera abbagliante. Invece, nella serra del Storia delle Piante, il calcestruzzo è stato modellato per mantenere le pietre che tracciavano il percorso recedentemente. La serra chiamata “Nuova Caledonia” è divisa in due da un ponte pedonale elegante incisi con motivi Kanak / On 2 June 2010, the four entirely renovated and restructured greenhouses in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, were reopened to the public after years of work. LAN has created an itinerary that unfolds from one greenhouse to the next and whose forms emphasize, with a motif, a specific form or colour, the particularities of these contrasting worlds. These “passageways” enable us to experience the plants at close hand, to freely immerse ourselves in them, emphasising the distinction between a “museum” and a “greenhouse.” Building bridges TThe guiding principles defining LAN’s project were to dissolve the limits of the greenhouse structures in order to mix colour, form and matter, to create pathways perfectly integrated into their host environments, and to illuminate and highlight the majesty of the trees while respecting the natural ambient light. It is the vegetation’s exceptional luxuriance that is given precedence, not the ostentatious architecture, which would have detracted from it. The treatment of the paths blends into the spaces while reflecting the characteristics of each of the four greenhouses. A versatile material The same concrete was used for the path in four different ways. In the Tropical Forests greenhouse, the prefabricated concrete, coloured during mixing, is laid in strips of different lengths alternating with bare ground. This has the effect of “blurring” or “fraying” the path’s edges. With time, the plants and flowers will be able to infiltrate the path itself and its surface will acquire a patina. In the Deserts greenhouse, the concrete is light-coloured and helps accentuate the dazzling atmosphere in this sun-drenched pavilion.In the Plant History greenhouse, the same concrete was shaped to accommodate the listed stones marking out the path, which had remained unchanged for a century.
